- Description:
- Heartwood is light to dark, reddish brown, lustrous; sapwood is light brown to pale with light pinkish hues.
- Light Sensitivity:
- Color darkens significantly with age.
- Size and Grade Availability:
- Standard widths are 2-1/4" and 3-1/4" in a select grade or common grade. It is also available in a random width plank in a select or glacier grade. In all grades, expect some white sapwood to appear.
- Comments:
- Because of drastic color change, rugs should not be placed for six months.
- Hardness (Janka):
- 950 (26% softer than Northern Red Oak).
- Dimensional Stability:
- Above average (17% more stable than Northern Red Oak).
- Origin:
- North America.
