Maple (Sugar/Hard)
- Description:
- Heartwood is creamy white to light reddish brown; sapwood is pale to creamy white.
- Light Sensitivity:
- Ambers over time.
- Size and Grade Availability:
- Standard widths are 2 1/4, 3 1/4" in a 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. It is also available in a random width plank in a select or rustic grade.
- Comments:
- Difficult to stain. Dark stains can be achieved through a special process. Boards will sometimes have torn grain.
- Hardness (Janka):
- 1450 (12% harder than Northern Red Oak).
- Dimensional Stability:
- Below Average (15% less stable than Northern Red Oak). Because of light color, expect to see more gaps than a red oak floor.
- Origin:
- Northern Wisconsin.
