Red Oak
- Description:
- Heartwood and sapwood are similar, with sapwood lighter in color; most pieces have a reddish tone. The floor is more red and lighter than white oak. Ralph's uses a northern oak which has a more uniform color and grain than southern or Appalachian oak.
- Light Sensitivity:
- Ambers over time.
- Size and Grade Availability:
- Standard widths are 2 1/4, 3 1/4" in a select or common grade. It is also available in a random width plank in a select or rustic grade.
- Comments:
- Accepts stain easily.
- Hardness (Janka):
- Northern: 1290 (Benchmark)
- Dimensional Stability:
- Above Average (8.6).
