White Oak
- Description:
- Heartwood is light brown, some boards may have a pinkish tint or a slight grayish cast. Sapwood is white to cream. White oak is slightly darker and grayer than red oak.
- Light Sensitivity:
- Ultraviolet rays will change the color of the wood where some of the gray tones fade.
- Size and Grade Availability:
- Standard widths are 2-1/4" and 3-1/4" in select or common grade. It is also available in wider width planks in select, natural, or rustic grade.
- Comments:
- Accepts stain evenly.
- Hardness (Janka):
- 1210 (6% softer than Northern Red Oak).
- Dimensional Stability:
- Average (10.5; 22% less stable than Northern Red Oak).
- Actual installations of White Oak have shown very little movement.
- Origin:
- Northern Wisconsin.
